Posing: Family Edition

Family and maternity stories are my jam. I absolutely love working with families. When I pose families, I always have to do both posed and candid shots. Giving their story the variety of memories to have forever. As a mama, I know we work so hard getting this together and planning so let me make it easy for you getting all the moments during your storytelling session. Here are my 5 must have poses for you family stories 🤍

The Snuggle or Family Sandwich.

This pose is so sweet. Have the little one(s) in the middle and give them kisses on their ears. You read that right closer to their ears. Because we want to see their sweet faces. It’s so silly and they love this. You can do this with one to two little ones.

Walking while Holding Hands.

Getting those movement poses is so fun. You can do this in a variety of different ways. If your little is too little or not walking yet. You can have the parents hold hands and then hold the little one on either outside side. If there is a sibling that can walk, you can put them in the middle of the parents. If everyone is walking, you can do all the littles in the middle, choo choo train (tallest to shortest) getting them from the side or stager everyone.

Airplane.

Love this pose! This is best for little ones that have great head control (6 months to 12 months). Put them in the middle of the parents and have them hold the bottom of their belly. Then they go for a flight. Have the parents look at their little ones having the best time.

Bring a Blanket!

You can do so much with a neutral blanket. They can really enhance your storytelling with families. You can have the parents sit with their little ones and have them tickle them. One of my favorites for my toddler, have them run under the blanket while the parents lift it up. You can even turn the blanket into a swing.

The Dip.

Fantastic for one to two year olds. Put the little one in the middle on their back and have mom and dad hold them underneath. Then dip them. They love this one.

Bonus: Just Mom and Dad.

While all the must have poses for the little ones, don’t forget just mom and dad. Make time for them. They started this story that you’re capturing. They are also growing up together too so don’t forget to capture them. Just them 🤍

Bonus, bonus: Enhancing the Poses.

Get different angles! Rotate around your families while they do a pose. You can get so many different moments in just one pose. Have them do it multiple times and get those different angles. Don’t forget the small details too.
